A Private Birthday Party Venue in Luton
Birthdays have one thing most other events do not: the date is already decided. So the first thing worth knowing is whether we’re free — send us your date, and we will tell you straight away.
After Dark is a private birthday party venue in Luton town centre. The venue is closed to the public for your booking, so it is your guests and nobody else. There is a fully licensed bar, a permanent dance floor, a professional sound system, mood lighting and booth seating, with an in-house DJ available or your own playlist.
We are on Upper George Street, a few minutes’ walk from Luton railway station — useful when guests are coming from across town or travelling in.
Planning a Milestone Birthday
Every milestone brings a different guest list and a different kind of evening. Here’s how the space is usually set up for each.
18th Birthday
An 18th is usually the biggest party someone’s had, with a large friendship group and family involved too. The practical thing to sort first is who can attend — friendship groups at this age are often a mix of 18s and under-18s, and that affects everything from timings to what we can arrange. Contact us early and we’ll tell you exactly what applies to your booking.
21st Birthday
A 21st tends to be the classic night out: a big group, a proper dance floor and a late finish. Guests are usually happy standing and moving between the bar and the floor, so the layout can be more open than for other milestones. Popular Saturday dates go early.
30th Birthday
By 30 the guest list changes shape — friends from different phases of life who don’t all know each other, some with young children who’ll leave earlier. A mix of seating and dance floor works best, and an earlier start suits guests who can’t make a late night.
40th Birthday
A 40th is often organised by a partner or friend rather than the birthday person, sometimes as a surprise. Expect a wide age range and a bigger emphasis on being able to sit, talk and hear each other early on, with the music building later.
50th Birthday
Fiftieths tend to be family-led, with several generations present. Seating, sound levels and a slightly earlier start all matter more here. Speeches are common, so tell us if you’re planning any.
60th Birthday
A 60th is usually the most multi-generational of the milestones, often including grandchildren and guests in their eighties. Comfortable seating and step-free access are worth checking in person, so it’s well worth visiting the venue before booking.
How Free Birthday Venue Hire Works
Venue hire is free for eligible bookings of 50 guests or more, so you pay for what your guests drink at the bar rather than for the room. Bookings of 40 to 49 guests are charged at £500, and there is a minimum of 40 guests.
If your party is smaller than that, contact us anyway with your date and numbers — we will tell you honestly what is possible rather than leaving you to work it out.

Choose Your Birthday Package
If you are collecting money from a group, ask for a quote early so you can give people one number up front.
Your Own Venue, Not a Reserved Corner
No Queue, No Door Policy for Your Guests.
Everyone you have invited gets in, and nobody stands outside in a line on your birthday.
The Music is Yours.
Our in-house DJ, or your own playlist. If there is a song that has to be played when you walk in, it gets played.
Nobody Else in the Room.
No strangers in the photographs, no sharing the bar, no other group’s music competing with yours.
Somewhere to Sit.
Booth and table seating means guests who want to talk are not standing all night, which matters more the further up the milestones you go.
Private and exclusive hire
Private hire means the venue is closed to the public for your booking — not a roped-off area or a group of reserved tables. The bar serves your guests only, the dance floor is yours, and the room can be set up around how you want the night to run.
Tell us how many people you are expecting, and we will advise on layout.
The Birthday Party Room
The room can be arranged for a seated celebration, a standing party, or an open layout with the dance floor at the centre. Birthday party room hire includes exclusive use of the space, the bar, the sound system and the lighting, with our team handling setup.
If you have been looking at birthday party hall hire in Luton and finding halls where you’d need to organise sound, a bar, staff and a licence yourself, that’s the practical difference — everything is installed and already licensed.

Guest Numbers
Invite lists shrink. Work from who will actually come, since numbers affect layout and the hire terms.
Timings
Decide when guests arrive and roughly when the music should build. For milestones with a wide age range, an earlier start usually works better.
Music
In-house DJ or your own playlist. Send across the songs that matter — the entrance track, and anything the birthday person would be upset to miss.
Cake and Decorations
If you are bringing a cake, balloons or a backdrop, raise it early so we can confirm what’s possible and how much setup time you’ll have.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can you have a birthday party in Luton?
Options include restaurants, pubs with function rooms, community halls and private venues. After Dark offers exclusive private hire of a town-centre venue with a bar, DJ and dance floor. The right choice depends on your numbers, whether you want the place to yourselves, and how late you want to go.
Can we hire the venue privately for a birthday?
Yes. The venue is closed to the public for private bookings, so it’s only your guests in the room.
How many guests can we have?
Up to 150. The comfortable number depends on layout — a seated party holds fewer than a standing one with the dance floor open.
Is there a minimum number of guests?
A minimum of 40 applies, with hire free for eligible bookings of 50 or more and £500 for 40 to 49. If your party is smaller, contact us and we’ll tell you what’s possible for your date.
Can we bring a cake, balloons or decorations?
Usually, though it depends on your booking and the setup time available. Tell us what you are planning when you enquire and we will make sure there’s a table for the cake.
Can we bring our own DJ or playlist?
Either. We can provide an in-house DJ, or you can bring your own or supply a playlist. Send any must-play songs in advance.
Can we arrange food?
Please discuss catering with the team when you enquire
We are planning a surprise party — can you help?
Yes. Tell us when you enquire and we’ll plan arrival, setup and timings around keeping it a surprise.
What time does a birthday party finish?
We hold a late-night licence, so later finishes are possible. Exact times are agreed when you book.
Is the venue suitable for older guests?
There’s booth and table seating so guests who’d rather not stand have somewhere comfortable. For specific access needs, please contact the team.
How far ahead should we book?
As early as you can, particularly for a Saturday or a date near Christmas. Birthday dates can’t move, so it’s worth checking availability before you tell anyone else.
Can we visit before booking?
Yes. Contact us to arrange a convenient time.
How do we check availability and secure the date?
Send your date, guest numbers and which birthday through the enquiry form, by phone or on WhatsApp.
